Autumn in the Mountains: What to Do in Vail This Fall

by | Aug 31, 2021 | Vail

It’s hard to believe it, but summer 2021 is already gone. Hopefully, you had your fill of all the best summertime activities the Vail Valley has to offer.

But what about autumn in the mountains? Is the fall a good time to visit Vail?

If you ask the locals, many will tell you that the autumn months are their favorites. The summer crowds are gone, but there’s still plenty to see and do before the first snowflakes fall.

Ready to get inspired? Here’s our roundup of the best fall activities happening in Vail in 2021.

Gourmet on Gore

Labor Day weekend is host to one of Vail’s premier culinary festivals — Gourmet on Gore.

This year, the festivities fall from September 3-5. Join the valley’s top chefs and mixologists for a series of tasting events you’ll never forget!

The event kicks off Friday night with “Food Trucks al Fresco” in the Vail Village. On Saturday and Sunday, open-air tastings go on from 11 am-6 pm along Gore Creek Drive and Willow Bridge Road. There are also extra activities like yoga classes, mountain hikes, a kid’s culinary corner, and much more.

Vail Oktoberfest & Taste of Vail

Oktoberfest was canceled last year due to the pandemic, but it’s back for 2021 and we can’t wait! If you can’t make it up for Gourmet on Gore, plan your visit for one of the following weekends.

Oktoberfest takes place in Lionshead from September 10-12 and Vail Village from September 17-19. There’s also the Taste of Vail festival that runs from the 16-19, making it the perfect weekend for foodies as well as beer and wine enthusiasts.

Expect live music celebrations, bratwurst eating contests, stein lifting, and plenty of pretzels and strudels to go around.

Outlier Offroad Festival

Does your idea of autumn in the mountains include camping, hiking, and mountain biking? If so, plan your visit for September 24-26, when the Outlier Offroad Festival comes to Vail.

This is your chance to see and demo the latest bike models and other outdoor gear. There’s also a full calendar of sports-related clinics, expos, contests, and much more. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, you won’t want to miss this one!

Fall Nature Walks

Vail Village is amazing, but you came to the mountains to experience the great outdoors, right? When you’re ready to slow down and get away from the crowds, sign up for one of Vail’s daily Fall Nature Walks.

The walks depart from the Vail Nature Center every day at 11 am. Suitable for people of all ages, this easy guided walk takes you through the surrounding woods and meadows to learn about local wildlife and the change of seasons.

Autumn in the Mountains: The Perfect Time to Relax

As you can see, most of Vail’s autumn activities center around good food, good drinks, and good times. If you’ve never experienced autumn in the mountains, plan your Vail vacation today and see why it’s the perfect time of year to visit!

After you’re done with food festivals, nature walks, and other outdoor activities, you’ll want some time to relax and unwind. That’s where we come in.
